We
need your help and we need it fast! The Settlement Notification program
(in our not so humble opinion) is
a joke, and deadlines are fast approaching. We believe that General
Electric is doing everything possible to contain news of the settlement and
the benefits available to consumers. They are bilking consumers out of their right to participate in the
settlement. Many of you who know about the settlement and
participated (or tried to), are being cheated out of the very benefits the settlement
purports to provide by getting misinformation from General Electric and - in
many cases - being denied the benefits you
do in fact qualify for. For example:
As of April 15, 2006 of the 45,000+ consumers who returned claim
forms, more than 40,000 were from the state of Florida (where the
lawsuit was filed).
GE insists that only refrigerators manufactured at the Bloomington,
Indiana facility were defective. Until 2003, the Bloomington
factory was producing 1.5 million side-by-side refrigerators per year for national
distribution. The numbers do not add up.
Reports continue to come in of previous service repair records that
are missing from GE's current database (at the Settlement office).
In open Court (at the Fairness Hearing), GE and Class attorneys, minimized the
database/notification omissions. We know
that the second Notification program included 240,000 additional consumers. We believe this is still woefully
inadequate.
You Can Help!
There are two things you can do. First of all, if you own
(or previously owned) one of the models included in the Settlement
Agreement, please complete the survey below. We cannot stress enough
how valuable the information you have been providing is to this website.
Not just to gauge the scope of the defective refrigerator problem, but to
also gauge and understand General Electric's machinations in keeping
everything about the settlement 'under the radar'.
Secondly, we need a faster method of broadcasting information nationally before the door closes on the Settlement.
We cannot wait for people to come to us and this is where you
come in. Copy and paste the following text (everything between the two
blue horizontal lines) into an email from your
personal account and follow the directions it contains. (A plain text
version is available HERE.)
Thank you for your help.
Sincerely,

Dear Friend,
I am writing to ask a favor of you. Too many people are unaware of
a national class action settlement with General Electric concerning 304
defective models of side-by-side refrigerators manufactured between January
1, 2001 and December 31, 2002. I believe that General Electric is
trying to contain the damage of this lawsuit by limiting distribution of
critical consumer information. Please visit the website:
www.bringgoodthingstolife.org and check to see if your refrigerator is
listed in the settlement. If you own one of the models included and
are unaware of the settlement, please follow the advice on the website so
you will not lose your rights to reimbursement and/or compensation.
(This is not one of those terrible coupon settlements!)
Next, please copy and paste into a new email (please do not use
the forward button) the entire text of this email and send it to all your
personal acquaintances in your email address book (so you are not
accused of spamming since the recipients will recognize your name and/or
email address). Do not be concerned about whether or not your friends
own one of the GE refrigerators - they can still send this message on to
their friends.
Time is of the essence. The claim deadline is fast approaching and this
information needs to be spread as far - as wide - and as quickly as
possible. Thank you.
Sincerely,
[your name]
